Weight loss is easy – maintenance is hard

Weight loss is easy, because if you limit yourself to a pound or a pound and a half of dead animal a day, you’ll lose weight. If you go up to two pounds of dead animal a day, you probably won’t lose weight fast enough to stay on your diet. Maintenance is harder, because assuming you’re going to go off just dead animals and veggies and eat what you want a day or two on the weekend – relatively freely feeding, you need to find a way to keep your calories under reasonable control. Limiting your fat intake on your off days is one of the best things you can do to keep calorie damage under control. Fat can actually help you lose weight on a low carb diet, by making you less hungry and curbing sweet and starch cravings. But fat can be a disaster on your maintenance off days, because on full carb eating, additional fat calories can go right into fat storage.
