The best way to maintain your weight – low calorie balanced diets don’t work

The strategy that works best for maintaining weight, for me and most of my patients, is to live on Protein and
Veggies on Monday through Friday, and eat anything you want on Saturday and maybe on Sunday. Back to
Protein and Veggies on Monday. 50% of patients can eat anything they want on Saturday and maintain, 50% of
patients can eat anything they want on both Saturday and Sunday and maintain their weight. What most people
try to do to maintain lost weight doesn’t work, and that’s to try to eat less. Because the average American
carbohydrate portion is too big, just trying to cut back is probably not going to maintain weight, because too
much carbohydrate causes too much fat storage, which means the bet is you’ll regain everything you have lost. I
never recommend balanced low calorie eating either, for the same reason. The carbohydrate intake is generally
to great to maintain weight, not to mention the hunger and feeding frenzy that happens when you try to follow a
balanced low calorie diet.
