If you want to lose weight, you need to try 500 calories every other day, and you need to try a 1500 calorie low carbohydrate diet. Both diets work, but you’ll feel better and do better, on one diet or the other. Some patients do best starving every other day. Other patients do best on a low calorie, low carbohydrate diet. Trying out 500 calories every other day is simple. On your diet day, don’t eat, or limit yourself to just steamed veggies – anything you want, except no peas, no potatoes and no corn, and limit yourself to no more than 500 calories. You can eat a ton of steamed low carbohydrate veggies, and stay under 500 calories. On your off diet day, eat anything you want, except no sugar. Allowing sugar piles in way too many calories, way too fast. After a week of 500 calories every other day, try a week of low carb. For one week, limit yourself to 5-10 grams of carbohydrate per feeding, no more than 20 grams of carbohydrate per day, and no more than 1500 calories a day. You’ll have a clear preference.
