Sugar-free candy, gum and artificial sweeteners

Sugarless gum, sugar-free candy and artificial sweeteners can help you make it through the day on your low carb diet. Tthe carbohydrates and calories in most sugarless gum do not cause a problem. Ditto the calories and carbohydrates in Equal, SweetnLow, Spenda and Truvia. You do have to watch both the calorie and carbohydrate content of sugar-free candy however. You can add way too many calories and way too many carbohydrates with sugar-free candy, if you’re not careful. The rule is, try to keep you carbohydrate intake under 1 gram per serving, and you calorie intake under 5 grams per serving. Sugar-free Jols work perfectly for most patients. Sugar-free Lifesavers can work too, if you cut them in half and limit how many you eat.
