Liquid calories are deadly – stop juicing and start losing

Liquid calories can be deadly. The first thing I tell patients who want to lose weight is absolutely no liquid
calories. It’s almost impossible to lose weight if you are drinking sugared soda or Starbuck’s drinks with milk or
sugar in them. Liquids provide way too many calories, way too fast. It would take you half an hour to eat half a
dozen oranges, and you would be sick to boot. But you can drink a 400 calorie glass of orange juice in less than
a minute. Starbucks will sell you an 800 calorie Godiva hot chocolate. If you truly want to lose weight, make sure
you drink at least a gallon of non-caloric fluid every day. There’s no magic in water. Your body can’t tell the
difference between water, ice tea and Diet Coke. You need this much fluid to flush out the fat you are burning
when you cut calories and carbs.
