Large Group Awareness Training (LGAT) works by using stress to make the prefrontal cortex of your brain
susceptible to simplistic black and white thinking. The combination of mind-numbing boredom (lack of stimulation
of your synapses), and hammering your synapes with rollercoaster emotions, produces susceptibility to simplistic
black and white thinking, which is used to decondition and disassociate the anxiety associated with craving
carbohydrates and not eating them. Simply put, LGAT makes it easy to crave sweets and starches and not eat
them. I’ll be doing another LGAT for weight loss the middle of next month (September 2010), and will follow the
subjects in the group weekly for a month, tracking their weight loss. You can read about LGAT in books and on
the internet (go ahead and Google it), but you have to be a part of the group for the experience (because it is
experiential) to work for you. You can understand LGAT, but it won’t do anything for your cravings. Just like
you can understand meditation, but understanding meditation won’t lower your blood pressure, you have to
meditate.
