The 2 foods you can’t eat on a low carb diet and expect to lose weight are cheese and nuts. It’s rare that I see a patient who is able to eat any significant amounts of either of these foods and consistently lose weight. Both cheese and nuts take your calories to stupid, way too fast. A small bag of peanuts or almonds or cashews or mixed nuts from the gas station or Starbucks usually has 500-600 calories. Cheese is 100-120 calories per slice, 100 calories per ounce. Restaurants routinely put 500-800 calories of cheese into salads and omelets. If I can get a patient off cheese and nuts, in general I can get them to lose weight on a low carb diet.
