I’m not a fan of 12 step programs for weight loss, alcoholism and drug abuses. Most of the studies of Alcoholics Anonymous suggest that the program doesn’t work. (Suicide prevention hotlines don’t work either.) Most of the studies of the large commercial (non-medical) weight loss programs, suggest that they don’t work either. Obesity is a medical problem, and does not lend itself well to psychological treatment. If your insulin and ghrelin levels are too high, and your GLP1 and leptin levels are too low, all the structure and psychological support in the world, is not likely going to help you lose weight.
