Low calorie (fake food) diet desserts, and low carbohydrate (fake food) diet desserts are for maintenance, not weight loss. I seldom see patients who can eat any significant quantity of (fake food) diet crap and lose weight. Sugar-free cookies and sugar-free puddings and low carbohydrate ice cream and low carbohydrate whipped topping can help you maintain. But don’t think for a second that, in general, you can eat any signficant quantity of this stuff and lose weight. When you are eating sugar-free treats, or low carbohydrate desserts, your calories are more likely than not going to go to stupid, way to quickly, for you to lose any weight. Most low carb ice creams and low carb cheesecakes are as caloric as the real thing, if not more so. And most patients eat twice as many Snackwells as the real thing, so what’s the point?
