Portion control is the secret to weight loss, whether you are on a low carb (highly recommended) or low calorie (not recommended) or low fat (really not recommended) diet. If you don’t find a way to limit your portions, you will not lose weight. Forget what the diet books say about eating until you are full. If you eat until you are full, you are probably not going to lose any weight. Eating until you are full, got you fat to begin with. The advantage of a low carbohydrate (10-20 grams per feeding) diet, is that you’ll be less hungry and store less fat, as your insulin level will be lower. The disadvantage of a low carb (and any) diet, is that you absolutely, positively cannot eat as much as you want. I know almost every low carb diet book tells you that you can eat as much as you want. It’s a great way to sell diet books, but a lousy way to lose weight. If you want to lose weight, find a way to limit your dead animal and fat calories, to no more than 1500 a day.
