I hate it when patients take calories to stupid on low carbohydrate diets. You are consciously depriving yourself
of sweets and starches in order to lose weight. But you just can’t eat 3000 plus calories a day and expect to
lose weight. Half of the weight loss on low carbohydrate diets is from water loss the first week. This is a good
thing, because every pound you lose is a mile of blood your heart doesn’t have to circulate, so it takes stress off
your heart. But the problem is freely feeding. Freely feeding diets don’t work, because you can’t freely feed and
lose weight. Eating 3000 calories a day is a lot more fun than eating 1500 calories a day. There really isn’t a
Santa Claus. It’s a lot easier to lose weight when you restrict carbohydrates, because you are not as hungry.
But calories count to some extent.
