Trying to lose or maintain weight by cutting back – or cutting calories – just doesn’t work

Trying to lose weight or maintain your weight just by cutting back or limiting what you eat, doesn’t work. The
biggest lie I know is that if you don’t eat 500 calories a day, you’ll lose a pound a week. It just isn’t true. Weight
loss and weight maintenance is more about limiting fat storage, than excess calories. In over-feeding experiments,
if the diet is limited ot just protein and fat, it’s almost impossible to gain much more than 10 pounds. As soon as
you add carbohydrate to the mix, weight gain can be almost unlimited. If you want to maintain your weight, do
what I do. Eat just Protein and Veggies Monday through Friday, take Saturday off and eat whatever you want,
then back to Protein and Veggies on Sunday. 50% of patients can cheat one day a week and maintain their
weight. I’m in this group. The other 50% are luckier, they can cheat 2 days a week and maintain their weight.
Maintenance is the same program you lost weight on – Run, Walk, Swim and Fly Monday through Friday – take
Saturday or Sunday or both off, then back on dead animules and Veggies through the week.
