The original 1941 Harper’s Bazaar Grapefruit Diet – more structured, still works

The original Grapefruit Diet was first published in Harper’s Bazaar Magazine in 1941. It’s a little more structured
than the 10 Days 10 Pounds Off Diet (see yesterday), but it still is good for about a 10 pound weight loss in 10
days. For breakfast every day eat a whole grapefruit and black coffee or tea. Lunch is 2 scrambled eggs, 3
saltine crackers or a tomato OR a 2 egg plain, herb or jelly omelette, 3 saltine crackers OR 2 small lamb chops
or a 1/4 pound hamburger (no bun), 1 tomato OR rye bread sandwich with 2 ounces of ham or 1 ounce of
cheese or 2 ounces chicken. Half a grapefruit for dessert. Dinner is a 6 ounce steak, lettuce and tomato salad, 1
cup string beans OR 2 small lamb chops, lettuce and cucmber salad, 1 cup tomatoes OR 6 ounce hamburger,
mixed green salad, 1 cup spinach or 8 asparagus OR 6 ounces halibut, 1 cup cabbage, 1 cup cauliflower, 1 cup
carrots OR a 6 ounce steak, 1/2 head lettuce, 1 cup Brussels sprouts. Dessert is half a grapefruit again.
