Stop emotional eating – drive a wedge between thought and action

Emotional eating is actually easier to get a handle on than craving eating. All emotions are either Mad, Sad or
Glad – or some combination of these feelings. You eat in response to feeling happy, to feeling sad, to feeling
stressed, to feeling elated. The key is to drive a wedge between thought and action. The thought is “I want to
eat.” More specifically, the thought is, “I’m happy and I want to eat” or “I feel down and I want to eat.” If you
stop for one tenth of a second before you put food in your mouth, and ask yourself if you are hungry, or if want
to do emotional eating, or if you are craving – the answer is usually crystal clear. By taking the time to ask these
three simple questions, before you put anything in your mouth, you can stop emotional eating ninety nine percent
of the time. Ask yourself – “Am I hungry?” If the answer is yes, go ahead and eat some protein and fat. Ask
yourself – “Am I emotional eating?” If the answer if yes, in your mind’s eye, in your imagination – drive a wedge
between your emotions and eating. Cravings tomorrow.
