My 3 favorite strategies for weight loss are: (1) Push non-caloric fluid. Make sure you drink at least 128 ounces (1 gallon) of water or coffee or diet pop or iced tea a day. It’s amazing how pushing fluid can improve weight loss. Patients are less hungry, have more energy, and fewer cravings when fluid intake is very high. (2) Use low carbohydrate portion control. Get 300 calorie frozen sirloin burgers at Costco, or eat 200 calorie Quarter Pounders from McDonald’s without the bun. (3) Limit your calories to 1500 calories of protein and fat (no carbs) a day. If you eat much over 1500 calories a day, you won’t lose weight quickly enough to stay on your diet.
