One of the cheapest and most popular pieces of home exercise equipment is the Gazelle. It doesn’t take up a lot
of space and is ideal for Interval Training, the most efficient kind of exercise you can do. Interval Training is
exercising as hard as you can for 1-3 minutes, recovering for 1-2 minutes, then exercising as hard as you can
again. If you do this 3 times a day, it might be all the exercise you need. You can do Intervals on any kind of
exercise equipment you like – on a treadmill, on an elliptical machine, on a stepper, etc. The key is to exert
yourself as hard as you can for 1-3 minutes. Start with 1 minute of exertion and recovery, and work up to 3
minutes of exertion and recovery over a week or two. You’ll be amazed at how quickly Interval Training
conditions you. In the classic study in the 1960’s, exercise physiologists would see a couple. The husband had
been running 3 miles a day regularly, the wife had not been exercising. The husband was told to continue running
3 miles a day. The wife was told to run 1/8 a mile, walk 1/8 a mile – gradually working up to a 3 mile total. 2
months later, the wives were always in much better shape than their husbands.
