Don’t Paleo – if you want to lose weight

Paleo Diets (meat, fat, veggies and fruit) are good for maintenance, but way too high in carbohydrate for weight loss. I’m always amazed when I see another Paleo Diet book or Paleo expert promoting the Paleo Diet to lose weight. Carbohydrates icause fat storage, and you just can’t eat the fruit on a Paleo diet and expect to lose weight. Every day I see patients who fail to lose any weight all week on a low carb diet, because they are eating a little fruit every day. Fruit doesn’t work for weight loss. Your body makes twice as much alpha glycerol phosphate when you metabolize fruit compared to other carbohydrates, so you store twice as much fat. Paleo is maintenance, not weight loss.
