Don’t eat breakfast if you’re not hungry – eat early or late – eat once or six times a day

There’s no good science that suggests eating breakfast is a good thing to do if you want to lose weight. The
studies that suggest eating breakfast may help weight loss are not good science, but rather survey questionnaires
sent out to dieters. Don’t assume that eating breakfast is necessarily a good thing. I always tell patients, if you’re
not hungry, don’t eat. Go as long as you can without eating. It’s much easier for most people to eat nothing at all,
than to eat just a little. Eating breakfast does not speed up the metabolism, it just adds calories. The less you eat,
the faster you are going to lose weight. There’s also no good science that suggests you are better off eating six
small meals a day, as opposed to eating just once or twice. Small frequent feedings are not metabolized
significantly differerently than one or two large feedings a day. Figure out if you feel better eating early or later in
the day. Figure out if you feel better eating once or six times a day. Then do that.
