You have to limit calories on a low carb diet

You have to consciously limit your calories on a low carb diet, or you probably won’t lose any weight. If you don’t keep your calories under 1500 a day or so, you are making the white knuckle effort of depriving yourself of carbs, for almost no reason. Carbohydrate deprivation is no way near as much fun as carbohydrate feeding. Carbohydrates feel good. There’s a neurotransmitter boost you get from eating carbs, that you don’t get from protein and fat. Sugar has been shown to be addictive in animal experiments. It stimulates the nucleus acumbens in the brain. In English, carbs make you feel good, in a way that protein and fat do not. If you are going to deprive yourself of carbohydrates, deprive yourself of calories too.
