The biggest mistake patients make on low carb diets is taking their calories to stupid, and then bitching because they are not losing weight. If you want to lose weight fast enough to stay motivated on your low carb diet, you’re got to keep your calories at no more than 1500 a day. If you don’t limit your calories to no more than 1500 a day, your weight loss is going to be so slow, you will not stay motivated enough to put up with the carbohydrate deprivation. You’ll lose weight faster on 1000 calories a day, and you’ll lose even faster on 500 calories a day. The biggest mistake patients make on full carb diets is expecting to lose weight at all, even on 1500 calories a day. If you are not cutting down carbohydrates to no more than 20 grams a day, and no more than 8-10 grams of carbohydrate per feeding – you are probably not going to lose weight. If you absolutely, positively “have” to eat carbohydrates, go on 500 calories, every other day. In other words, you have to starve every other day, if you want to eat carbohydrates and lose weight. 500 calories every other day is the only way I know that you’ll lose weight, eating a full carb diet.
