Think of Paleo Diets and No Flour, No Sugar Diets and even Atkins as maintenance, because the big bet is you won’t lose any weight on these programs. Paleo and No Flour, No Sugar don’t generally work for weight loss, because the allowed fruit provides way too many carbohydrates, and the allowed nuts provide way too many calories and carbohydrates, for any kind of reasonable weight loss. Atkins doesn’t work, because you absolutely, positively cannot freely feed on protein and fat and expect to lose weight. Way too many calories for a sustainable weight loss program.
