Maintenance is damage control – watch out for liquid calories

The real secret to maintaining weight you have lost is damage control on the days you freely feed and are off
protein and veggies. Be very careful of liquid calories. Starbucks and Barnes and Noble sell way too many 600-
800 calorie drinks. If you can at all tolerate them, always order the lite versions. Unfortunately, ice cream
counts as liquid calories. At 270 calories per half cup, it’s way too easy to pack in way too many ice cream
calories. Sherbet and ices almost always have less than half the calories of premium ice cream, some are as low
as 80-100 calories per half cup. Low carb ice cream can be a caloric nightmare, as they often substitute 9
calories per gram fat calories, for 4 calories per gram sugar calories. Read the label carefully on diet ice cream,
often regular ice cream can have fewer calories. Mayonaise and cheese are other caloric killers. Mayo is 100
calories per tablespoon and cheese is 100 calories per slice. Substitute mustard, Dijon or regular yellow
whenever you can.
